FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tribute to Sen. Dianne Feinstein

Dianne-Feinstein

On behalf of the California African American Chamber of Commerce and the California African American Action Fund, we would like to express our heartfelt prayers and condolences to the family of the Honorable Dianne Feinstein, United States Senator, California.

Sen. Feinstein, 90, passed away in Washington, D.C., on September 30, after serving more than three decades in Congress. She was currently the eldest living lawmaker on Capitol Hill.

Feinstein’s passing is a major loss to our great state and nation.

CAACC Chairman Timothy Alan Simon, Esq., shared, “From my childhood, I was fortunate to be in the company of Senator Feinstein throughout her political career. Her doors were always open, maintaining a sincere interest in equity and access for the African-American community. She will be sorely missed, but the legacy she left will stand the test of time.”

A true American treasure, she began her political journey advocating against housing discrimination in San Francisco, California. Elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and becoming the city’s first woman Mayor, she survived the tragic assassinations of Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk.

She rose to the United States Senate in the “Year of the Woman,” spawned by the testimony of Professor Anita Hill in the confirmation hearings of United States Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

CAACC Board Officer (Chairperson of Government Relations), Mayor Deborah Robertson (Rialto) said she had the “pleasure and opportunity” to work with Sen. Feinstein for nearly 25 years.

“I’m grateful to have a piece of Sen. Feinstein’s original artwork that she created and signed. I will treasure and appreciate it always,” Robertson stated.
