Though born in Arkansas, Shirley Nash Weber made history in California as the state’s first African American Secretary of State. A longtime San Diego educator and legislator, she authored landmark police accountability legislation and has championed voting rights and civic access. Her leadership continues California’s legacy of progressive political advancement.
