“I Still Have a Dream

CAACC-Chamber-MLK-2025-v2

“I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day, this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed. We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal.”
– Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., August 28, 1963

In honor of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) and the celebration of the historic Civil Rights Act of 1964, the California African American Chamber of Commerce (CAACC) and California African American Action Fund (CAAAF) Board of Directors and members pay tribute to an influential civil rights leader best known for life, achievements, and work on racial equality and ending racial segregation in the United States.

Born on Jan. 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia, MLK’s legacy continues to serve as a powerful source of inspiration, a catalyst for action for people from all walks of life, a beacon to shed light on justice where there is injustice, freedom where there is oppression, peace where there is violence, and opportunity where there is poverty.

In California and across the country, CAACC, CAAAF, various California businesses, and community spaces will observe the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, followed by the commencement of months-long activities that feature acts of service leading up to the first day of Black History Month in February.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Dream is very much alive and remains grounded in the principle that every American has the right to access the same basic, fundamental rights afforded to any other individual living in the United States of America.
