The California African American Chamber of Commerce and Chamber Foundation Supports Pride Month

With the outpouring of support, The California African American Chamber of Commerce (CAACC) pledges its allegiance to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex (LGBTQI+) community during Pride Month.

CAACC stands by efforts that include inclusion, the fight for justice, and equality. Pride Month lets us as a country recognize that actual progress enables us to shatter stigmas, break barriers, and celebrate the vibrant diversity that enriches our society and authentic self-expression.

Pride Month is a perfect time to honor the LGBTQI+ community, including people of all ages and abilities. It reaffirms CAACC’s commitment to do more to support LGBTQI+ rights here in the United States and abroad.

The LGBTQI+ have and continues fighting to make our society more inclusive, welcoming, unified, and supportive. Pride Month also allows CAACC to recognize the LGBTQI+ community’s value in business and the workplace.

According to data provided by NBC News, the American Civil Liberties Union, and Freedom for All Americans, almost 670 anti-LBGTQI+ bills have been filed in state legislatures since 2018, 238 during the first three months of 2022 alone.

Today, 22 states and the District of Columbia have laws explicitly prohibiting workplace discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation. California is one of the states with such laws on the books.

According to the Human Rights Campaign, California joins Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia (DC), Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington as states that protects the LBGTQI+ in business and workplace environments.

This is Pride Month. Regardless of sexual orientation, economic status, race, religion, or ethnicity, everyone should stand in solidarity with the LGBTQI+ community when human rights awareness is essential and beneficial to their family members, friends, and loved ones.
