California African American Chamber of Commerce Celebrates Leaders at Annual Honorable Gwen Moore Legislative Reception

Sacramento, CA — The California African American Chamber of Commerce (CAACC), in partnership with the California African American Action Fund, welcomed lawmakers, business leaders, community advocates, and distinguished guests to the annual “Honorable Late Gwen Moore California Legislative Reception” on May 12, 2026, at the Kimpton Sawyer Hotel in downtown Sacramento.

The annual reception honored the legacy of the late Honorable Gwen Moore, a trailblazing legislator and advocate for equity, while recognizing leaders who continue to make significant contributions to California’s business, public policy, and community landscape.

The evening featured opening remarks from California Public Utilities Commissioner Karen Douglas and was hosted by Master of Ceremonies Kenny Caraway of ESPN 1320’s D-Lo & KC, who brought energy, insight, and enthusiasm to the celebration.

Honorees recognized during the evening included:
Gwen Moore Legislative Impact Award – Senator Lola Smallwood-Cuevas
Legislator of the Year – Assemblymember Mike Gipson
Special Recognition Award – Senator Dr. Akilah Weber Pierson
Aubry Stone Outstanding Business Award – Morgan Brown, Founder & President of Color the Block
Media and Communications Award – Dr. Amelia Ashley-Ward, Publisher of the Sun-Reporter
Chairman Award – Assemblymember Tina McKinnor

The reception served as both a celebration and a reminder of Gwen Moore’s enduring impact on California. Moore, who served 16 years in the California State Legislature, authored more than 400 bills signed into law and dedicated her career to advancing opportunities for underserved communities throughout the state.

Attendees reflected on the importance of preserving her legacy while continuing the work of advancing economic equity, civic leadership, and public policy solutions that strengthen Black communities across California.

“The Honorable Gwen Moore Legislative Reception continues to bring together leaders committed to service, advocacy, and economic empowerment,” said Ahmad Holmes, President & CEO, CAACC. “This event not only honors outstanding leadership but also reinforces the importance of collaboration and community impact.”

As California’s largest statewide Black Chamber organization, the California African American Chamber of Commerce remains focused on driving economic opportunity, supporting Black-owned businesses, and strengthening partnerships that advance equity and growth throughout the state.
