FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Statement from the California African American Chamber of Commerce On the Passing of Reverend Jesse Jackson
The California African American Chamber of Commerce joins the nation and the world in mourning the passing of Reverend Jesse Jackson, a towering figure in the fight for civil rights, economic justice, and equal opportunity.
Reverend Jackson was not simply a leader; he was a movement. Through decades of unwavering advocacy, he challenged systems of inequity, opened doors for Black businesses, expanded pathways to political participation, and reminded America that economic justice is inseparable from civil rights.
His work elevated supplier diversity, minority business development, and corporate accountability long before those terms became part of the national conversation. He understood that political power without economic power leaves communities vulnerable, and he spent his life working to ensure our communities had both.
Reverend Jackson’s voice echoed in boardrooms, in the halls of Congress, in the streets, and in the hearts of generations. He stood firmly on the belief that access, opportunity, and dignity belong to everyone, not just a few.
As a Chamber dedicated to advancing economic equity and building generational wealth for African American businesses across California, we recognize that much of the progress we stand upon today was paved by his courage, sacrifice, and vision.
We extend our deepest condolences to his family, loved ones, and the countless individuals whose lives were forever changed by his leadership.
His legacy is not only remembered but also a mandate.
We will honor his life not merely in words, but in continued action.
Rest in power, Reverend Jesse Jackson.
